The INSS (social security) 2026 table brought new values for contribution rates and the contribution ceiling, directly impacting payroll deductions for millions of Brazilian workers. The changes reflect the annual adjustment based on INPC and affect both CLT (labor law) employees as well as self-employed workers and MEI (micro-entrepreneurs).

Understanding these changes is essential to correctly calculate your net salary and plan your finances. INSS contributions follow a progressive system, where different salary brackets have specific rates.

New INSS 2026 table

Changes from 2025

The INSS ceiling increased to R$ 8,157.41 in 2026, representing an adjustment of approximately 4.77% compared to the previous year. This amount corresponds to the maximum limit for benefit salary and social security contribution.

Salary brackets were also adjusted proportionally:

  • Bracket 1: Up to R$ 1,518.00 (7.5% rate)
  • Bracket 2: From R$ 1,518.01 to R$ 2,530.00 (9% rate)
  • Bracket 3: From R$ 2,530.01 to R$ 3,795.00 (12% rate)
  • Bracket 4: From R$ 3,795.01 to R$ 8,157.41 (14% rate)

Contribution ceiling

The maximum INSS deduction amount is R$ 896.46 monthly. This means that even those earning above the R$ 8,157.41 ceiling will not have deductions exceeding this amount.

For salaries above the ceiling, workers can opt for private pension to supplement their retirement, since the maximum INSS benefit will be limited to the current ceiling.

Rates by salary bracket

Bracket 1 - up to R$ 1,518.00

The 7.5% rate applies to the entire initial salary bracket up to R$ 1,518.00. This is the lowest contribution rate in the social security system.

Example: Salary of R$ 1,400.00 → INSS deduction of R$ 105.00

Bracket 2 - from R$ 1,518.01 to R$ 2,530.00

For salaries in this bracket, the 9% rate applies only to the amount exceeding R$ 1,518.00. The calculation is progressive, maintaining 7.5% on the first bracket.

Example: Salary of R$ 2,200.00 → R$ 113.85 (7.5% on R$ 1,518) + R$ 61.38 (9% on R$ 682) = R$ 175.23

Bracket 3 - from R$ 2,530.01 to R$ 3,795.00

The 12% rate applies to the amount exceeding R$ 2,530.00. Previous brackets maintain their respective rates in the progressive calculation.

Example: Salary of R$ 3,200.00 → R$ 113.85 + R$ 91.08 + R$ 80.40 = R$ 285.33

Bracket 4 - above R$ 3,795.01

For the final bracket, the 14% rate applies to amounts between R$ 3,795.01 and the R$ 8,157.41 ceiling. Salaries above the ceiling do not incur additional INSS deductions.

How to calculate your contribution

Progressive calculation

The progressive system ensures that workers with lower salaries pay proportionally less. Each bracket maintains its specific rate, applied only to the corresponding amount.

Use this formula for each bracket:

  • Bracket 1: Amount × 7.5%
  • Bracket 2: Excess × 9%
  • Bracket 3: Excess × 12%
  • Bracket 4: Excess × 14%

Special cases

Domestic workers follow the same table, but employers also contribute their share. Individual contributors and MEI have specific rules that may differ from standard rates.

Impact on net salary

INSS deductions directly reduce your gross salary, but also decrease the income tax calculation base. This means the real impact may be less than the deducted amount.

For a R$ 5,000.00 salary:

  • INSS deduction: R$ 543.87
  • IRPF (income tax) base: R$ 4,456.13 (after deducting INSS)
  • IR savings: Approximately R$ 81.66

Financial planning

Knowing the exact deduction allows for:

  • More accurate family budgeting
  • Retirement planning based on contribution history
  • Decisions about supplementary private pension
  • Salary negotiations considering actual net amount
